Wanting to simply understand the feasibility of renovating their existing 1920s Dutch Colonial home, the Clients, a professional landscape designer and writer, tasked R. Edwards & Company with developing a schematic floor plan to make the home much more functional for the couple’s needs. Backed up to a large lawn with extensive perennial beds and a wooded forest behind that, the final design concept left the street facade as-is and opened up the rear of the home to the wonderful views beyond. From a functional perspective, things such as the washer and dryer, which were inconveniently located on the 2nd floor were brought down to the first, as was a half-bath so that guests no longer would need to go upstairs to use the restroom.
